Objectives

The lab ‘Climate and Resources’ will confirm its planned outputs after the Alliance-Level Kick-off Meeting on 26 October 2020.

The following work is already in progress:

  1. We plan to explore and educate students about the history of climate change by systematically characterizing climate records in sedimentary basins in a ‘blended virtual-real’ joint course for master students. We hope to introduce a 1-2 week summer field class at Castellote, Teruel Province, Spain, that integrates digital exploration of the geology of the region (or can be replaced by a digital field class we taught to Geology students at Universität Mainz in September 2020), and a series of lectures delivered online over the following semester.
  2. We will facilitate “KlikoMainz”, a student-led conference at Universität Mainz, which was planned for June 2020 but is delayed until June 2021.
  3. We will assist the FORTHEM student body to develop and implement a Sustainability Concept for the Alliance, and are considering research to determine the carbon budget of the Alliance’s activities.
